2023-2024 Hockey Season Recap

Season stats:

-3 skates per week

— — Monday night Premier League

— — Thursday Night Dominos Skate

— — Saturday Night Dominos Skate

I turned 36 this year. I wanna be that old man at the rink who is still playing well into my 70s and 80s. I'm pretty sure I'm going to become that old man.

I must say that other than the 1999-2000 season (where my Peewee hockey team from Bonavista won the All-Newfoudland Hibernia Cup, beating St. John's in the Championship Game where I was named player of the game (no big deal)); the 2024 hockey season was the best season of my life so far. So many great memories and teammates this year.

I used to take all of this for granted. But because I lived away for 6 years, now that I'm back I've learned to soak up and enjoy every moment. In hindsight, my time away was a major blessing as it paved a pathway to the feelings of gratitude I currently experience each and every time I go to the rink.

I just did a quick accounting and did you know that I had 90 teammates this year alone? 90 teammates!! That's 90 across the 4 teams I played on; The Bonavista Bulldogs, Edwards Developing, The Dominos Boys, and the random assortment of guys at the Christmas tournament.

That's 90 friends I could call on whenever needed. 90 different people I run into all the time out and around town.

You're going to grow up to be a beer league hockey player they said. I WISH FOR THEM THAT THEY COULD ONLY BE SO LUCKY!

^We won the Bonavista Bulldogs Tournament in March

^We won the Coors Light Cup (St. John's) in April. I joked that our defence on this team was better than the Growlers. I smell a dynasty with this group.

^This would be the photo for my 23-24 O-Pee-Chee hockey card. The text I have written above is what would appear on the back of the card. What a life.
